Weekend for potential Board members in Brussels

<p><img style="margin: 3px; border: #f2c89c 3px solid" src="/files/uploaded/03112008_brussels.jpg" alt="Recruitment weekend in Brussels" title="Recruitment weekend in Brussels" width="102" height="130" align="left" /> Have you ever wondered how it is to be a Board member, to live in Brussels and work for ESN full time? If yes – here is a chance for you to learn something more. The Board organises a weekend in Brussels at the end of January 2009 for people interested to run for a Board position. </p>

This weekend is meant to give ESNers who are considering to become candidates for the International Board a better insight into the job of Board members and into the life and work in Brussels.

The programme will include:

  • job shadowing of Board member:
    • one normal working day
    • one day of a Board meeting
  • meeting with other student organisations in order to get
  • their opinions on the life and work in Brussels
  • the city of Brussels by day and night

Dates: 30 January - 1 February, 2009
Capacity: maximum 10 people
Participation costs: food expenses

If you are interested to attend, please write an email by 15 December 2008, explaining your motivation to participate/become a Board candidate, to Marketa.

After this date, we will evaluate all the applications and inform the  selected people before Christmas so that they can get prepared for the event. For any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

ESN</strong>. Its author is Ismet Lisica from Bosnia and Herzegovina. The logo was by far the most popular in the online voting and will for next year represent our upcoming 20th Birthday.</p>

After a three-month open call for logos for Happy Birthday and 14-day voting, ESN has a logo to represent our Birthday for the upcoming year. The author is Ismet Lisica from Bosnia and Herzegovina – his design was by far the most popular. Congratulations to Ismet and our thanks to all the participants of the contest!!!

Open call for ESN secretary

<p><img style="border: 3px solid #f2c89c; margin: 3px" src="/images/graphic/secretary.jpg" alt="secretary" title="secretary" width="160" height="75" align="left" />If you have a good knowledge of <em>spoken</em> and <em>written</em> <strong>English</strong> as well as a functional command of spoken <strong>French</strong>, your working style can be described as precise, organised, and task-oriented, then apply for the position of <strong>ESN secretary</strong>! </p><p>We’re waiting for your applications till the <strong>15th November 2008</strong>. </p>

ESN has become a bigger, more organised and professional network without loosing its attitudes towards personal development and good-times. To keep up with the daily work and future planning a secretary is very much needed.

From 1st January 2009 the International Board is happy to welcome you to Brussels as the new ESN secretary for 6 months with the option of prolongation of another 6 months. You will be the first reference person when it comes to administrative questions regarding our organisation. Hence, you play a crucial role for the well-being and smooth operation of ESN.

Among your tasks for this job of high importance are:

  • Office management (Phone, office order, logistics etc.)
  • Preparation and minuting the Board meetings
  • Responsible for post/mail
  • Travel management
  • Working with the Communications responsible, for the development, implementation and execution of media tools
  • Other duties may be assigned as required. Additionally, you can take responsibility over a project.

You should have good knowledge of spoken and written English as well as a functional command of spoken French. Your working style can be described as precise, organised, and task-oriented. In the position as secretary, you need to deal with uncertainties and show a high level of patience. Well developed computer skills (MS Office, basic HTML and preferably OpenOffice) are more than welcome. For your work for ESN International you should have international experience and a sound understanding of ESN. Work experience is desired but not a must.

Your salary will meet Belgium requirements and a room in the ESN office will be provided against a rent of EUR 300.00 plus expenses.

ESN eXpress - write an article !!!

<p><img style="border: 3px solid #f2c89c; margin: 3px" src="/images/graphic/express_cover.jpg" alt="express cover" title="express cover" width="160" height="77" align="left" />Write an article for the new edition of the <strong>ESN Magazine</strong>!The topic of this edition is <strong>‘New Beginning’</strong>. We’re waiting for your articles till the <strong>31st October</strong> 2008.</p>

The requirements are as followed:

  • one page article: at most 400 words, around 2000 characters, spaces excluded;
  • columns: no more than 150 words, spaces excluded;
  • please send two/three photos connected to the article.

This time English articles will be the core of the magazine, but we would also like to receive articles from your Erasmus students as well as columns in your own languages (not only in English) to make the magazine even more interesting.

CNR in Rimini

The Council of National Representatives (CNR) took place 24 - 28 September in Rimini/Italy.

National Representatives (NRs) together with the International Board discussed and decided about many important topics, such as Bulgaria as a new candidate country, preparations for Regional Platforms and AGM, upcoming Happy Birthday, ESN and much more.

Building Europe Piece by Piece conference

<p><img style="border: 3px solid #f2c89c; margin: 3px" src="http://esn.org/images/events/building-europe.jpg" alt="logo" title="logo" width="160" height="71" align="left" />The <strong>Puzzle Conference</strong> took place in <strong>Brussels</strong> on <strong>18-19th of September</strong>. </p><p>We hosted around <strong>40 ESNers</strong> from all over Europe whom actively participated during the 2-days event. </p>

The Puzzle Conference took place in Brussels on 18-19th of September. We hosted around 40 ESNers from all over Europe whom actively participated during the 2-days event.

First day we led the discussion with the policy makers from the European Commission, Committee of Regions, French presidency and other organizations.

Second day the participants took part in Treasure Hunt in Brussels, and finally, piece by piece, we built up Europe!

European Association for International Education annual meeting took place in Antwerp (Belgium) 10th - 14th September.

Over 3'000 important persons involved in international higher education came together in Antwerp for four days.

Six people representing ESN International taught high-level representatives about how to organise a welcome week, the ESNSurvey, ESN PRIME, and the ESN Galaxy.

A lot of valuable contacts were made and many left Antwerp with the impression: Involve students to help students!
